Course Description
This course is an overview of chemical engineering approaches to sludge treatment processes with an emphasis on fundamental principles. Theory and conceptual design of systems for treating municipal wastewater is discussed, as well as reactor theory, process kinetics, and models. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are presented, including sedimentation, filtration, biological treatment, disinfection, and sludge processing. Finally, there is discussion of engineered and natural processes for wastewater treatment. The course gives the responsibility of engineers to develop the technological tools to meet the increasingly stricter standards for sludge treatment and disposal.
